THE BIRTH OF NFU PRO FORUM

After surveying the convention in 2017, NFU Executive realized that apart from coming together to celebrate our culture yearly, wirfon in Europe wanted more. The NFU Executive listened and decided to look into the proposals made. We took a step back and realized the bank of knowledge and expertise we had in our convention environment, we brainstormed on ways to optimize the time we spend together during the convention putting into consideration the experts present during that period. We proposed to create a professional forum, abbreviated NFUProForum, where we could meet and share inspiring ideas, projects, self-development tips, and career orientation ideas.

The idea of the NFUProForum is all-inclusive. Knowing that IT is the future we tried to introduce the NFU kids to basic HTML programming. The presentation from one of them in last year’s convention was a testimony of what we can achieve if we take time off and mentor our kids. Thanks to our President Banjika Ngo who spent countless hours coaching these kids. We want to use this as a call for experts in all the different fields to come up and be mentors to our kids. Surely we can be the ones who can inspire and help them avoid the mistakes we made. They are the future, so we need to equip them.

We also introduced the NFU Talks, where inspiring ideas are being shared. Last year we listen to how “big compounds” could be transformed into resourceful centres. This was presented by Rev Ngamsha using their “big compound” and what they have done as a case study.

We discussed extensively on the topic “Skills and Knowledge Exchange between wirfon in Europe and wirfon at home ”. This was done in a panel discussion where panelists delved deep into this topic and brought to our realization that knowledge transfer is not a one-way process but both ways.

They all acknowledge the fact that there is a need for knowledge exchange and we are looking forward to continuing with Part II of the discussion in Pordenone.

There was also a great presentation on solar panels and how they could be useful to us back home. This was done by our brother Sasha Barton . He presented innovative products that are already being used back home. It was an eye-opener for all of us. The first edition of NFU-Europe magazine was also launched and it was, in fact, a great networking event for the participants.  The long term goal is to build a vibrant wirfon network of professionals linking those back home and those abroad so that we can come together and tackle the issues affecting us as one.
